Eels 30 – Panthers 0

Maligned Parramatta halfback Jeff Robson starred on Saturday night as the Eels thrashed Penrith 30-0 in their NRL trial at Centrebet Stadium. Last season the Eels chased a string of high-profile halfbacks to mentor young five-eighth Daniel Mortimer, but perhaps the answer was under their nose the whole time. Robson, the halfback who took them to the 2009 grand final, was involved in everything, setting up tries with precision passing and kicking while also pulling off try-saving tackles. The Eels cruised home with a comfortable victory in a spiteful and physical, but mostly dour, affair. Continue reading

Cheers Kaufusi, G’day Taumata for the Cowboys

THE Cowboys will resist the urge to rush Arana Taumata into their team for tomorrow’s clash with Cronulla, despite coming to an in-principle agreement with the talented playmaker yesterday.Taumata has arrived in Townsville from the Wests Tigers ahead of the must-win round 16 NRL game at Dairy Farmers Stadium and is expected to train with the team this morning. However, coach Neil Henry said the 21-year-old was no chance of playing tomorrow and with feeder clubs the Northern Pride and Mackay having byes, he also won’t play in the Queensland Cup. The Tigers yesterday confirmed they had agreed to release Taumata from the remainder of his contract, allowing the Cowboys to sign him for the rest of the season and 2011. Henry said it was an exciting acquisition. ”He’s a player of undoubted ability and fairly exciting,” he said.

Tigers tame Cowboys

In a game that was played out on a surface compared to that of a swamp, the Tigers embarrassed the Cowboys 28 – 4 in their trial match last night. The Tigers ran in 5 tries to 1 with Englishman Mark Flanagan ($73,600 2RF) grabbing a double in his first run with the club. League bad boy Arana Taumata ($73,600 HLV) had a solid first run under the black and gold strip with halfback Blake Lazarus (Not Listed) impressive in his first outing after a year out because of a knee reconstruction. As for the Cowboys not much is being reported at the moment, and that is just fine with me ! You can stop scoffing now Coach Don …..

There were no injuries reported from the match.
