For the next 26 weeks of the NRL Dream Team Competition, I’ll be reviewing the rounds top performers.  To make it in this list each week a player must have a season average of 45 or more and score 50 points or more in the review round.  Mid season, I’ll review the top performers in all the key positions using a different criteria for each position.

There were mixed results across the board in round 1, a few players ventured into the 40’s but only eight broke into the 50’s.  Some high priced stars were disappointing – Corey Parker, Nathan Hindmarsh and Paul Gallen and on the other side of the coin Ashley Harrison (62) and Aiden Tolman (60) were exceptional – the only players in the round to break 60 and for Ashley Harrison, the only Titan to break 40.

Johnathan Thurston returned to Dream Team form; scoring 55 points and no doubt will make the Cowboys faithful very happy.  It was a case of what could have been though – JT loosing 16 points from mistakes, the worst from the Top Performers.

The graph below will give you a clear picture.  If you have these stars in your line up you would be pretty happy now and they continue their form you stand to make a bit of money after round 3.  JT will be the one to benefit most, currently at $217,300.00.  There is no point in reviewing any particular player, the table says it all if you are looking for value for value for money at this early stage.

I broke down all the stats to make it easier for coaches to get all the valuable information at a glance.  I have added the Break Even column this year to help coaches a little more.  This score is what each player needs in the next round to hold their current market value.  Remember each player must play three games for their market value to change.

The other column you should keep a close watch on is the one for Lost Points.  You can look at the information in that column two ways.  The potential a player has of scoring big points if they played mistake free football turning a 55 into a 71 or the lack of discipline in their game could cost you big points, turning a 55 into 39.  That’s the fun of Dream Team coaching.
