Sydney Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce is excited to make his first appearance for the club this year, when he lines up against the Wests Tigers on Saturday. Pearce did not play in the club’s two previous trials but says he is ready to finally take the field again. “It feels like ages since I last ran out on the field so I’m jumping out of my skin to get out there and get the footy in my hands again.” Despite only being 21 Pearce is already considered somewhat of a veteran in the squad as this year will be his fifth full season in first grade. Not content with a string of excellent performances last year the youngster has been concentrating on improving different areas of his game in the off-season. “My core strength is something that I have wanted to improve and with the coaching staff I have been working very hard at it,” he said  “I have also been working on my ability to run at the line and keep the defenders second guessing.” “So I have put a lot of energy in to my efforts running with the ball and hopefully it pays off during the season.” Away from football Pearce said he spent the off-season with mates in Bali and America recharging the batteries for the year ahead. Now the season has come around Pearce says he has some simple goals for the year ahead. “My main aim this year is to be consistent with my performances and that way the results will look after themselves,” he said. Pearce needs to play just 13 more games to reach the 100 career game milestone.
