Young Raiders halfback Sam Williams said he’s looking forward to getting another chance in the top grade and would be excited to get another chance if selected in this weekend’s trial match against the Bulldogs in Tamworth. Williams made a solid debut in his first senior game on Saturday night in Bega and with Matt Orford in doubt for the Tamworth trip with his knee injury, the opportunity could open the door for Williams to get some game time in the halves alongside Josh McCrone and Mick Picker. Williams said he enjoyed his first taste at NRL level and would be more than willing if given another chance against the Bulldogs. “I loved every second of playing alongside the NRL squad and I would love to get another chance if Dave Furner wants me to go to Tamworth,” Williams said. “It was great working with both Picks and Joshy on the weekend and hopefully I can learn more if I get another crack.” Raiders Coach David Furner will name a side for the Tamworth trial tomorrow, with a squad of around 20 players set to be named for the trip to northern NSW. Furner said the halves was one area the team needed to address during the trial period, particularly with Orford only a slight chance of playing in Tamworth. “Matt’s knee has pulled up a bit sore but we’re hopeful he still may travel to Tamowrth on the weekend and get some time on the field,” Furner said. “If not we need to look at using someone like Sam Williams again and get him some time on the field with Josh McCrone and Mick Picker.”
