Estranged Raider Todd Carney ($120,3oo HLV/FLB) looks like he will get a shot at the halves when the Sydney City Roosters take on the Wests Tigers in their Foundation Cup clash. Carney who was deregistered from the NRL after a number of alcohol fuelled incidents, owes much of his positive turnaround to a last season stint in a local Atherton team. It was for this reason and as a show of thanks the Roosters sent a team north to play the locals, “He set up a few tries and celebrated with water afterwards. He’s off the drink and going full-bore.” Atherton Roosters chairman Michael Nasser said. Current Roosters Captain Braith Anasta ($195,700 HLV) also travelled north but declined to play due to an ankle complaint which also threatens to delays his seasons start. If this turned out to be true Carney would almost be a certain starter in the halves with Mitchell Pearce ($254,900 HLV) and Anthony Minichiello ($91,100 FLB/CTW) regaining his custodian role at fullback for the season opener.
